Welcome to Bird Droppings!

Hi I’m Anjana and Bird Droppings is my newsletter. I am a designer and illustrator who has an obsession with illustrated journals, analog tools, fountain pens and anything and everything that has a good story behind it.

As you can see in the disclaimer, I have a lot of hobbies. Apart from being confused about which hobby to pursue, I also find myself plagued with guilt every-time I allow myself to do something fun. So I started Bird Droppings as an attempt to chronicle the crusades of my creative exploration.

Obviously (Or maybe not), this newsletter is not literally Bird Droppings. It’s so called because they are ‘drops’ of curated content delivered to your inbox every Saturday.

But why start a newsletter in the first place?

After finishing my MFA in Graphic Design, I got married and moved to California. I made a bunch of great friends and was inspired to put out what I learned into the world, with the burning aspiration to write my own children’s book. However, uprooting myself from a college ecosystem and working remotely from home meant that I was creating within the confines of my own studio. When my husband’s reaction to all my random obsessions got reduced to raised eyebrows and bewildered smiles, I tried social media. I quickly found out that format dictated the scope of my work and this resulted in a lot of frustration.

By day I work at The Mighty (a healthcare startup) where I create encouraging illustrations and affirmations for people dealing with unique health challenges to empower themselves. Lately, I’ve found that I need to do some empowering for myself. My aim is to :

The form of content you see will be a medley of different things : everything from illustrated journal entries, travel journals, discoveries of wonderful tools you did not know you needed, and the haphazard, non-linear process of what it looks like to take up a creative pursuit.

It’s free! This newsletter is a pure labor of love. It is free for anyone who has the time to read it.
